I will not sign any guarantee for financing Ukraine's military spending in the next two years and Slovakia will not participate "with even a single cent" in financing Kiev, Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico said today, quoted by the TASR news agency, BTA reported.
After a meeting of his government, Fico said that he wants to initiate an extraordinary parliamentary session on this issue.
The Slovak prime minister also commented on the information that the US may eventually reduce the presence of American troops on NATO's eastern flank, which could also affect Slovakia. "For me, this is confirmation of how rational US President Donald Trump is. To a certain extent, he is right. Europe lives in luxury, relying on the presence of American troops. We had the feeling that everything was working. The US president said he needed resources elsewhere," Fico explained, adding that he was not surprised or worried by Trump's "pragmatic attitude."
Romanian Minister of National Defense Ionut Moșteanu hinted at a press conference today that the reduction in the presence of US troops on NATO's eastern flank could also affect Slovakia, TASR noted. "It is important to emphasize that this is not a withdrawal of US forces, but rather a cancellation of the rotation of a brigade that had troops in several NATO countries, including Bulgaria, Romania, Slovakia and Hungary," Moșteanu said.
