The Chinese economy is like an ocean, President Xi Jinping said, quoted by the state news agency Xinhua, after his meeting today with his American counterpart Donald Trump, BTA reported.
Xi urged China and the United States to focus on the long-term benefits that cooperation can bring, instead of falling into a vicious circle of retaliation. The economic and trade teams of China and the United States have held in-depth talks and reached consensus on solutions to the problems, he announced after his conversation with Trump in South Korea, where the two participated in the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
A little earlier, the US president highly praised his meeting with his Chinese counterpart and said that the two had reached agreements.
Xi urged the economic and trade negotiators of the two countries to continue to reduce the list of problems and increase the list of opportunities for cooperation. China and the United States should interact positively at the regional and international levels, he stressed.
The Chinese leader expressed confidence that his country can handle all risks and challenges.
China never seeks to challenge or replace any country, but instead focuses on doing its job well, he stressed in an indirect reference to the United States.
China will deepen reforms and open up more to the outside world, Xi concluded, as quoted by Xinhua.
