Russia with first comment on the canceled meeting between Putin and Trump - 1

Commenting on an article in the "Financial Times" newspaper about the reasons for the cancellation of the meeting in Budapest between US President Donald Trump and Russian leader Vladimir Putin, the Kremlin said today that one should trust only official statements of the Russian Foreign Ministry and the US State Department, not media publications, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

"Financial Times" announced today that the United States has canceled a planned summit in Budapest between the two leaders after Russia's tough stance on its key demands regarding Ukraine.

Days after Trump and Putin agreed to meet in the Hungarian capital to discuss how to end Russia's war in Ukraine, the Russian Foreign Ministry has sent a memorandum to Washington outlining the same demands to address the "root causes" of the war as Putin has phrased them. The demands include territorial concessions, a major reduction in Ukraine's armed forces and guarantees that the country will never join NATO, the Financial Times reported.

Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov advised journalists to contact the Russian Defense Ministry today after being asked about a Reuters report that Russia had fired a 9M729 medium-range missile at Ukraine.

Senior Ukrainian sources said Russia had fired the missile, whose secret development prompted the United States to withdraw from a nuclear arms control treaty with Moscow, 23 times at Ukraine since August.

"I can't say. That question should be addressed to the military about what missiles and delivery systems are being used. "This is a question that, of course, should be addressed to the Ministry of Defense," Peskov said regarding the Ukrainian side's allegations, as quoted by TASS.
