Nigerian President Bola Tinubu is set to meet his American counterpart Donald Trump in the coming days over US allegations of Christian genocide in Nigeria. This was stated by Tinubu’s Special Adviser on Political Communications, Daniel Bwala.
„Both President Bola Tinubu and President Donald Trump are interested in fighting insurgency and all forms of terrorism, Bwala noted in the H. „Regarding the disagreements on whether the terrorists in Nigeria are targeting only Christians or people of different religious beliefs, those differences, if any, will be discussed and resolved by the two leaders during a meeting in the coming days at the presidential palace [in Nigeria] or at the White House.“
On November 1, Trump said he had instructed the Pentagon to prepare potential decisive measures against „Islamic terrorists“ in Nigeria to protect Christians. He had previously claimed that Christians in Nigeria were facing an existential threat and vowed to protect them.
Tinubu rejected the US president's accusations. He said that characterizing Nigeria as a country of religious intolerance did not reflect the realities in the country and "failed to take into account the consistent and sincere efforts" of the country's government "to guarantee freedom of religion and conscience for all Nigerians."
