Russian troops have advanced further into the eastern Ukrainian town of Pokrovsk amid heavy fighting, German publication Focus.de reported.
It cited information from the pro-government Ukrainian military channel Deep State on Telegram, which did not provide further information.
In recent days, several hundred Russian soldiers have penetrated Ukrainian lines around the town and dug in in the center of Pokrovsk. Russian troops have been advancing on the mining town of Pokrovsk in Donbas for more than a year, suffering heavy losses.
Pokrovsk had a population of approximately 60,000 before the war. Ukrainian troops in Pokrovsk and the neighboring town of Mirnograd are threatened with encirclement – disaster for the soldiers.
According to reports, Ukrainian special forces are conducting operations behind Russian lines to prevent the fall of Pokrovsk. Ukrainian media, citing Ukrainian military intelligence sources, said that commandos were flown in by helicopter to keep the supply line between Pokrovsk and Mirnograd open.
Against this backdrop, Germany has provided important assistance to Kiev. In the next few days, Ukraine will receive two Patriot air defense systems, promised by Germany in August. According to media reports, as of October, Ukraine had 10 American Patriot surface-to-air missile systems, most of which were supplied from German stocks or purchased with German assistance.
