At least 40 people were killed in an attack on the strategic Sudanese town of El Obeida - the capital of North Kordofan province, the UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs reported, quoted by Agence France-Presse, BTA reports.
The UN did not specify when exactly the attack took place, nor which party was behind it.
The incident occurs against the backdrop of intensifying fighting for control of North Kordofan between the regular Sudanese army and the paramilitary group “Rapid Support Forces“.
The conflict in Sudan has been going on for more than two and a half years, with civilians remaining among the main victims of the ongoing clashes.
