A palliative care nurse was sentenced to life in prison in Germany on Monday for killing ten patients with lethal injections and attempting to kill 27 others, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
Prosecutors believe the nurse injected his mostly elderly patients with painkillers and sedatives to ease his work at night.
A spokesman for the Aachen court said the crime was considered particularly serious, meaning the nurse had little chance of being released from prison after serving 15 years of his sentence – the minimum time required for a life sentence in Germany before a prisoner can request a reduction in sentence or early release.
The nurse committed the crimes between December 2023 and May 2024. The sentence is subject to appeal.
German police said they were investigating other suspicious cases during the nurse's career.
