Israel: No Turkish troops in Gaza - 1

An Israeli government spokesman said on Sunday that Turkish troops would not be deployed in Gaza as part of a multinational force that is to take over the functions of the Israeli army.

"There will be no Turkish troops on the ground", spokesman Shosh Bedrosian said in response to a question from journalists, quoted by AFP.

US President Donald Trump's plan to end the two-year war envisages a temporary international stabilization force to gradually take over security in Gaza from the Israeli army.

The force has not yet been established and many countries are calling for it to receive a mandate from the UN Security Council.

Asked about Israel's objections to Turkish forces in Gaza, US Ambassador to Turkey Tom Barak said earlier this month at a security conference in Manama that Turkey would participate.

Last month, Vice President J.D. Vance said that Ankara would have a "constructive role" but that the White House would not impose anything on Israel regarding foreign troops "on their territory".
