There has been no continuation of talks between Russia and the United States regarding the settlement of the war in Ukraine, Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said.

He made his statement after Axios reported that Washington and Moscow were holding secret discussions to find a solution and end the war.

One source claimed that US Special Envoy for the Middle East Steve Witkoff and the Russian President's Special Envoy for Foreign Investment and Economic Cooperation Kirill Dmitriev had extensive talks on the 28-point peace plan.

However, Peskov clarified that while Russian President Vladimir Putin and his US counterpart Donald Trump discussed the issue during their meeting in Anchorage, "there was no development" beyond what was discussed there.

Nearly four years since Putin sent tens of thousands of troops into Ukraine, Russian forces have been advancing hard and control about 19% of its territory. Moscow claims that four of the Ukrainian regions are now legally part of Russia, although Kiev and Western European powers say they will never officially accept that.

Putin laid out his main conditions in June 2024, demanding that Kiev abandon its plans to join NATO and withdraw its troops from four regions that Moscow claims are part of Russia: Donetsk and Luhansk in eastern Ukraine, which make up the Donbass, as well as Kherson and Zaporizhia in the south.
