The General Secretariat for Civil Protection of Greece declared a red code for dangerous weather in the regions of the Ionian Islands, Western Greece, Epirus and Peloponnese, in force from Wednesday to Friday, the online edition of the newspaper “Kathimerini“ reported, BTA reported.
The Greek Ministry of Climate Crisis and Civil Protection indicated that they will hold emergency consultations with local authorities and civil protection services in the country today, after which a red code for dangerous weather is likely to be declared in other regions of the country.
Due to the storm “Adele“, which is expected to bring heavy rainfall and thunderstorms over Greece, the country's General Secretary for Civil Protection Nikos Papaifstatiou convened a Risk Assessment Commission yesterday day.
The scientists of the committee said that the storm is expected to affect the western and northwestern parts of the country, the northern Ionian Sea and the Epirus region. They added that many areas in western and northern Greece, as well as in the eastern Aegean Sea, will also be affected by heavy rains and extreme weather.
Strong storms and torrential rains have caused damage in many places in northwestern Greece over the past week. Local authorities in Greece are trying to repair the damage as quickly as possible in order to prepare for the upcoming second wave of heavy rainfall.
