Moscow considers the statement of the Chairman of the NATO Military Committee Giuseppe Cavo Dragone about possible preventive strikes against Russia to be an extremely irresponsible step, which testifies to the readiness of the alliance to move towards escalation. This is stated in a statement by the spokeswoman of the Russian Foreign Ministry Maria Zakharova, TASS reports, quoted by Focus.
The diplomat draws attention to the recent interview of Dragone with the Financial Times newspaper.
"Commenting on the bloc's reaction to "hybrid attacks" by Russia, he stated that "preventive strikes can be considered defensive actions". It is clearly time for the North Atlantic Alliance to act “more aggressively”, the diplomat explains.
"We consider Giuseppe Cavo Dragone's statement about possible preemptive strikes against Russia as an extremely irresponsible step, which testifies to the alliance's readiness to continue moving in the direction of escalation“, she notes.
We see in it a purposeful attempt to undermine efforts to overcome the Ukrainian crisis. People who make such statements should be aware of the resulting risks and possible consequences, including for the members of the alliance themselves”.
