A car was recorded on December 1st moving at a speed of 231 km/h on the Skopje Ring Road, according to the cameras of the “Safe City“ system, which is currently in test mode in the capital of North Macedonia. This was stated by the head of the “Road Traffic“ department at the Ministry of Internal Affairs of the country, Maja Arsovska-Manov, and the state advisor in the minister's office, Vladimir Velkovski, in an interview with TV “Telma”, BTA reported.

The system has been operating as a test since the beginning of December, so far in Skopje and the approaches to the capital, as well as in Kumanovo and Tetovo, with the aim of covering the entire country with cameras that detect road violations. According to the Ministry of Interior, on the second day of the system's test period, the highest recorded speed was 209 km/h, and at this stage, drivers only receive information via SMS about violations, and from the beginning of next year they will also receive fines.

The fastest cars are moving at the exit from Skopje to Tetovo, and on one of the major boulevards in Skopje, “Nikola Karev“, the cameras have also recorded the intersection where drivers most often run red lights.

And while on the first day of the “Safe City”, the registered violations reported by the police were 110 thousand, on the second day they decreased by half - 50,652. The largest part of them are speeding - 48,861, and 1,366 cars ran red lights.
