The United States has published its new national security strategy, and the document was uploaded without prior announcement to the White House website. In it, one of the leading directions in American foreign policy is defined as "a rapid cessation of hostilities in Ukraine". The document is quoted by BTV.
According to the strategy, this is among the "key interests of the United States" in the European context. Washington emphasizes that an end to the war is necessary to stabilize the European economy, prevent an unintended escalation or expansion of the conflict, restore strategic stability with Russia, and lay the foundation for the post-war reconstruction of Ukraine as a "viable state".
The document identifies the United States as an important participant in the process of restoring relations between Europe and Russia after the end of the conflict. According to the authors, the war has led to a "significant weakening" of ties between Moscow and European countries, and for many Europeans, Russia is now perceived as an existential threat.
"Managing relations between Europe and Russia will require significant diplomatic efforts on the part of the United States — both to restore strategic stability on the Eurasian continent and to reduce the risk of conflict between Russia and European countries," the text states.
The strategy concludes that "restoring stability in Europe and strategic stability with Russia" should be among the top priorities of American policy in the region.
