A car bomb explosion killed five people outside a police station in Mexico. The deadly incident took place in Coahuayán, Michoacán state, the regional prosecutor's office said.
„An SUV destroyed by the explosion was found at the scene, along with the remains of two people. Eight police officers were also reported to have been injured in the incident. They were taken to a hospital, where it was later confirmed that three of them died while receiving medical attention,” the prosecutor’s office said in a statement.
The prosecutor’s office added that officials from the prosecutor’s office, as well as the ministries of national defense, the navy, public security and civil defense, were sent to the scene to investigate the incident.
The state attorney’s office stressed that it would continue to work with federal agencies in the investigation.
The powerful detonation caused a fire and caused serious damage to nearby buildings and vehicles. The car was reportedly completely destroyed, and experts were unable to determine its make due to the extensive damage.
