The Director General of the Iranian State Radio and Television (IRIB), Peyman Jebeli, admitted that the media made mistakes in covering the war with Israel, DPA reported.
"We have damaged our credibility", Jebeli told students, quoted by the Iranian newspaper "Entehab". He pointed out that the television had reported false information about the downed F-35 fighter jet. "An employee informed us that this happened and we reported it. "Later, however, it turned out that the information was not reliable," explained Peyman Jebeli.
The conflict between Israel and Iran escalated in June, when for 12 days Israel, together with the United States, carried out strikes against Iranian targets, including military and civilian, as well as against nuclear infrastructure facilities. So far, there have been no confirmed cases of the downing of an F-35 fighter jet during these attacks, DPA notes.
IRIB is considered a propaganda channel for the government in Tehran. In 2022, the media outlet and its leader were sanctioned by the European Union for restricting the free flow of information and complicity in human rights violations.
During the attacks in June, Israel also bombed IRIB's headquarters.
