The port city of Odessa in southern Ukraine and the surrounding region suffered massive power outages on Monday after a large-scale Russian attack on the country's power grid, Reuters reports.
President Volodymyr Zelensky said Russia had attacked Ukraine with more than 450 drones and 30 missiles.
"The main burden of the attack was on our energy system, in the south and in the Odessa region," he wrote on Telegram, adding that thousands of families in seven regions of Ukraine were left without electricity.
Moscow has regularly bombed Ukraine's energy system since the start of the war in 2022, causing hours of daily power outages on power outages across the country.
The Ukrainian power grid operator reported that "a significant number" of households were without power in the southern Odessa and Mykolaiv regions, while the Ukrainian-controlled part of the frontline Kherson region was completely without power.
