Hamas: We have the legitimate right to remain armed - 1

The "Hamas" group has the "legitimate right" to remain armed and any proposal to implement the next phases of the ceasefire in the Gaza Strip must respect this right, said today the leader of the Palestinian Territories Movement, Khalil al-Haya, quoted by Agence France-Presse, writes BTA.

"Resistance and weapons are a legitimate right guaranteed by international law and are linked to the establishment of a Palestinian state", al-Haya said on the Palestinian Islamist movement"Al-Aqsa" TV.

"We are ready to consider any proposal that preserves this right and guarantees the establishment of a Palestinian state", he added.

As a result of strong pressure from the United States, a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip came into force on October 10, a little more than two years after the start of the war, triggered by the unprecedented attack by "Hamas" on October 7, 2023 against Israel.

"There is no future for "Hamas" in the Gaza Strip, they will be disarmed," Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu's spokeswoman said on Thursday, after the Palestinian Islamist movement offered only "freezing" or "storing" its weapons arsenal.

The ceasefire agreement, which should ultimately lead to an end to the war and the reconstruction of Gaza, has already allowed for a partial withdrawal of Israeli troops from the strip, as well as an exchange of Israeli hostages for Palestinian prisoners, AFP reports.
