We are preparing for the EU summit in Brussels, Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said on the social network “Facebook“ shortly before the start of the meeting of the European Affairs Committee in the parliament in Budapest, the Hungarian news agency MTI reported, quoted by BTA.
“The stake is simple: war or peace“, Orban said. “We have never been so close to resolving the Russian-Ukrainian war. Europe is on the threshold of a huge opportunity: the United States may soon end the war that we Europeans have been unable to resolve for four years. "We can do nothing but support them," the prime minister said, but added that "all signs point in different directions."
Europe will continue the war on the battlefield and "will intensify it in the economic sphere by confiscating frozen Russian assets," he said, adding that the latest move is "equivalent to an open declaration of war and the Russian side will strike back."
"We have no reason to change the Hungarian position. The war cannot be decided on the front line. We should do what US President Trump does: negotiate," Orbán said.
“Hungary will therefore not support the confiscation of frozen Russian assets, will not send money or weapons to Ukraine and will not participate in the EU's war loan,“ Orbán said.
“Tighten your belts, we're going to have a rough week,“ he added.
