The Spanish train drivers' union warned the railway operator ADIF in a letter from August about serious wear and tear on high-speed railway lines, including the one on which two trains collided yesterday, Reuters reported, citing a copy of the letter, BTA reported.

Potholes and irregularities, as well as irregularities in the electrical wiring networks, cause frequent breakdowns and damage the trains, the text published on the social network "Ex" says.

The operator has not yet responded to Reuters' request for comment.

When the accident killed 39 people.
