US President Donald Trump said last night that he had invited his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin to join his initiative for resolving global conflicts, called the "Peace Council", Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.

"He is invited", the White House chief told reporters in Florida.

Regarding the tension over Greenland, Trump said that Denmark cannot guarantee the defense of the island, which is its autonomous territory.

According to him, during this week's World Economic Forum in Davos, Switzerland, the US will discuss the issue of acquiring Greenland.

"We should we have it. They have to do it. They can't protect it. They, the Danes, are a wonderful people," the Republican said. "I know their leaders, they are very good people, but they don't even set foot there."

US President Donald Trump said he had a "very good" phone call with NATO Secretary General Mark Rutte about Greenland, Reuters reported.

"Greenland is critical to national and international security. There is no going back – everyone agrees with that!", Trump wrote on his social network "Truth Social".

Earlier, Trump told reporters in Palm Beach, Florida, that the Danes and their leaders were wonderful people, but added that they were unable to guarantee the defense of the Arctic island, which is an autonomous territory of Copenhagen.
