The Belgian security services have established that a state, and most likely Russia, is behind the numerous cases of drones entering airports and other sensitive sites in the country, including barracks and nuclear power plants, Belgian Interior Minister Bernard Quenten announced, quoted by local media, BTA reports.
According to the services, over 550 such cases have been detected in Belgium since October. Several investigations are underway, without specifying either their number or the suspected perpetrators.
The efforts to prevent new incidents involve the ministries of the interior and defense, the Air Traffic Management and counterintelligence. The first task is to establish what capabilities should be provided to detect further threats. According to Kenten, there is currently no immediate threat to citizens or facilities in Belgium.
