Vucic: The state has nothing to do with the affair of the seized tons of marijuana - 1

Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic said yesterday that the state has nothing to do with the affair in which five tons of marijuana were seized from the property of a representative of the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) near the city of Krusevac, Central Serbia, Serbian media reported, quoted by BTA.

He added that the police had “arrested people“ and that his political opponents “are turning everything upside down“ and claiming that the state is behind this.

“People from the “Criminal Police“ Directorate found five tons of some drugs. Now whether only the son knew about it or both the son and the father, that is another matter, let the competent authorities determine, I do not want to assume anything“, Vucic told Pink TV.

On January 29, the Serbian police, in cooperation with the Prosecutor's Office for Organized Crime (TOK), seized five tons of marijuana in the area of the village of Konjuh near Kruševac.

It was announced that the suspects are Aleksandar Mijajlović, Nebojša Spasojević and Rade Spasojević (father and son), Ivan Dragnić and Uroš Mladenovski.

The prosecutor's office has proposed issuing an arrest warrant, including an international one, for the suspect Aleksandar Mijajlović, who has been identified as the organizer of a criminal group and is absconding.

TOK announced that the organized crime group operated on an international scale, acquiring five tons of the narcotic substance marijuana on the territory of the Republic of North Macedonia in the period from the beginning of January to January 29.

The chairman of the opposition People's Movement of Serbia, Miroslav Aleksic, published on the social network Ex a claim that one of those arrested in the drug seizure was a municipal councilor from the ruling Serbian Progressive Party (SPP) in Kruševac.

Aleksic said that the arrested person was a “friend and close associate“ to the family of Serbian Defense Minister Bratislav Gašić.

Gašić, who was born in Kruševac, congratulated the police and other security services for the action, adding that it shows that no one in Serbia is above the law, the "Kurir" newspaper reports.

He did not name specific names and did not comment on Aleksić's claims.

The deputy chair of the SPP city organization in Kruševac, Nevena Đurić Nikitović, also issued a statement stating that "the state is clear and ruthless in its fight against crime and corruption", the Serbian edition of Radio Free Europe reported.
