NATO Secretary-General Mark Rutte rejected the idea that the United States is not putting enough pressure on Russia to reach a peace agreement with Ukraine.
He stressed that the US is doing "exactly what we need when it comes to Ukraine".
Rutte pointed to sanctions against Russia adopted by Donald Trump administration, as well as arms sales to Ukraine through PURL initiative and leading peace efforts through negotiations.
He assured that NATO is capable of defending both its eastern flank and the Arctic.
"We need to have a 360-degree approach to any threat to NATO territory", Rutte was categorical.
He reiterated his confidence in Washington's commitment to common defense and predicted that in the long term there would be a "strong conventional US presence in Europe", in addition to nuclear deterrence.
