Cabinet Secretary Chris Wormald - Britain's most senior civil servant - has agreed with Prime Minister Keir Starmer to step down, Reuters reported, BTA reported.
This is the third member of the prime minister's team to leave in a matter of days after the scandal over the appointment of Peter Mandelson as ambassador to the United States triggered a government crisis.
“I am very grateful to Sir Chris for his long and distinguished career in public service, spanning more than 35 years, and for the support he has given me over the past year“, Starmer said.
“I have agreed with him to step down as a cabinet minister today“, he added.
