The New York Times: White House steps up pressure on Zelensky to cede Donbas to Russia - 1

The US presidential administration is stepping up pressure on Ukraine to make concessions on Donbas in favor of Russia and to end the conflict by early summer, The New York Times reports, citing sources among officials, Focus writes.

It is still unclear what the US is ready to do if Kiev does not succumb to pressure. Ukraine is trying to find a balance between meeting American expectations and avoiding "unacceptable compromises“ on territory and other issues, the article says.

Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky, as the NYT writes, believes that Washington is putting more pressure on Kiev than on Moscow. At the same time, he made it clear that Ukraine must do everything possible to keep the Trump administration engaged in the peace process.

At the same time, Ukrainian MP Yaroslav Yurchyshyn said that the Trump administration had threatened Kiev to withdraw from the negotiation process if Ukraine was not ready for a compromise, including by holding elections, the article states.

The next meeting of the delegations of Russia, the United States and Ukraine will take place in Geneva on February 17-18, the representative of the Russian president Dmitry Peskov announced.
