Europe should participate in the peace talks for Ukraine, as it is it that finances a significant part of its defense against Russia. This is stated by Polish Foreign Minister Radoslaw Sikorski, quoted by Bloomberg, writes Focus.
"This is getting a little strange. "We are paying for the war and we don't always have complete information," Sikorski noted.
According to him, EU countries have already spent over 200 billion euros to support Ukraine and have promised another 90 billion. This is enough to finance defense for about two more years.
He emphasizes that Europe is spending “real money”, in particular, to purchase American weapons for Kiev. Therefore, it has the right to vote in determining the conditions for a possible settlement of the conflict.
His statement came against the backdrop of intensified US efforts to end the war. At the same time, the latest negotiations between the US, Russia and Ukraine were held without the participation of representatives of Europe, which caused concern in the EU.
Sikorski also rejected Moscow's claims that its victory was inevitable. In his words, “Ukraine is inflicting significant losses on Russia, and the Kremlin is exhausting its resources to maintain the military economy. He drew attention to the fact that Russia has not yet managed to completely take over Donbas”.
