Two people were shot during a youth hockey game in Rhode Island, authorities said, as quoted by the Associated Press.
Pawtucket Police Chief Tina Goncalves told the media that the shooter was also killed. Three other victims were hospitalized in critical condition.
“It appears to have been a targeted act, possibly related to a family conflict,“ she said.
Goncalves did not provide details about the suspect or the ages of the victims, but said both victims were adults.
Authorities are still trying to gather information about the incident and speak to witnesses, she said.
The shooting took place at the "Dennis M. Lynch Arena" hockey rink in Pawtucket, a few kilometers from Providence.
Outside the building, families were seen crying and high school hockey players, still in their uniforms, were seen hugging each other before boarding a bus to leave the area. Roads around the rink were closed, with heavy police presence and helicopters flying overhead.
Patucket is a city with a population of just under 80,000 people, which until recently was known as the headquarters of the Hasbro company, AP recalls.
