Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that he expects the next round of trilateral talks to end the war with Russia to take place later this month, and added that in his opinion this round could be productive, Ukrinform reported, quoted by BTA.
Zelensky expressed this position in a post on "Facebook".
"Our negotiating team presented a detailed report after their meetings in Switzerland. In particular, we discussed aspects that cannot be commented on over the phone. I am grateful to the team for the precise work, adhering to the guidelines, and also for the patience shown during all the talks with the Russian side. This was not always easy or reasonable," Zelensky wrote. "It is important that the special envoys of the US President are also doing everything possible to maintain the constructive course of the negotiations, and Ukraine fully supports them in this regard. Our contribution is always fully focused on constructive interaction," the Ukrainian leader added.
According to him, there are still real opportunities to end the war in a dignified manner, and putting pressure on Russia by the international community can significantly help achieve a sustainable peace.
"We count on another round of negotiations to be organized soon, as early as this February, and for this round to be truly productive," Zelensky noted.
He added that Ukraine's answers to the most difficult questions of the next meeting have already been prepared. According to him, the priorities of the negotiating team in the new round of trilateral talks have already been determined.
He also emphasized the role of European partners in the negotiation process and indicated that it should be strengthened.
Earlier, Zelensky stated that progress had been made on military issues, in particular, regarding the monitoring of the ceasefire. However, he added that differences on political and territorial issues, on the topic of the Zaporizhzhia NPP, etc., had not been overcome.
Speaking to journalists afterwards, Zelensky predicted that the next round of trilateral talks between Ukraine, Russia and the United States would take place in Geneva within 10 days, Ukrinform also reported.
"The fact that no one currently sees positive developments on territorial issues is also a reality and we must recognize this," he noted.
