French President Emmanuel Macron has called for calm ahead of planned nationwide protests today in memory of a far-right activist killed last week, Reuters reported, BTA reported.

The demonstrations are in memory of 23-year-old Kanten Durank, who was beaten to death. His death has shocked the country and police fear the protests could turn violent and lead to clashes between rival extremist political groups.

Macron also said the US Supreme Court's ruling on President Donald Trump's tariffs showed that it is good to have checks and balances in democracies, the rule of law.

"It is not bad to have a Supreme Court and the rule of law," he said at the annual agricultural fair in Paris. "It is good to have checks and balances in democracies," he added.

Macron also said France would analyse the consequences of Trump's new 10% global tariffs and that it would continue to export its products.
