Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov said that a meeting between the presidents of the United States, Russia and Ukraine makes sense only if it leads to "finalization" of an agreement to end the war. In an interview with Russian propagandist Pavel Zarubin, he indicated that the three leaders should meet only if it is possible to form a final deal.
Peskov also commented on a possible personal meeting between Russian President Vladimir Putin and Ukrainian Head of State Volodymyr Zelensky, stating that such a conversation should be preceded by "very extensive expert work", especially on the issue of territories, which he described as the most complex. According to him, the Kremlin continues to support the proposal for Zelensky to come to Moscow for a meeting.
For his part, Zelensky has repeatedly stated that the most controversial issues, including territorial ones, can be resolved only within the framework of a personal conversation with Putin. In his recent interviews, related to the fourth anniversary of the start of the full-scale Russian invasion, the Ukrainian president emphasized that Kiev does not accept territorial concessions, while Moscow insists on the withdrawal of Ukrainian forces from the entire Donbas.
Putin has previously questioned Zelensky's legitimacy and expressed skepticism about the effectiveness of such a meeting.
