Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said today that the possible deployment of British troops in Ukraine would not end the conflict, but would prolong the war, Reuters and TASS reported, quoted by BTA.
France and Britain last month signed a declaration of intent for the future deployment of multinational forces in Ukraine after a ceasefire with Russia is agreed.
British Defense Secretary John Healy recently said that he would like to be the first British defense secretary to send troops to Ukraine.
„Despite Healy's fallacy, the deployment of British troops in Ukraine would not mean the end of the war, but prolonging the conflict and increasing the risks of a large-scale military clash involving many more countries“, Zakharova stressed.
She also warned again that Russia would consider any foreign troops in Ukraine as legitimate targets.
“The British continue to show an active interest in preserving the source of instability in our region. They are in every way preventing a long-term and sustainable resolution of the crisis“, Zakharova added.
