Russia will not participate in the upcoming meeting on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict, which will take place in the US. These will be contacts between representatives of Kiev and Washington, said today the press secretary of Russian President Vladimir Putin Dmitry Peskov, quoted by TASS, BTA reported.
"No, these will be bilateral contacts between Ukrainians and Americans", he specified in response to a question, speaking to the media.
Earlier, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said that a meeting could take place in the US tomorrow within the framework of the negotiations on the settlement of the Ukrainian conflict.
Russia hopes to soon continue the trilateral talks on Ukraine, Peskov said. He suggested that the current pause is temporary.
The Russian leadership does not intend to speculate on why Europe does not support its American allies in Iran, while at the same time supporting the continuation of the conflict in Ukraine, the Kremlin spokesman said. On the contrary, the main question for Moscow is why the EU intervened in the situation in Ukraine at all, he added.
European countries, by giving up Russian energy resources, continue to "shoot their voters in the foot", Peskov said in a comment on the statement of the President of the European Commission Ursula von der Leyen, who completely ruled out the possibility of EU countries buying Russian gas, even if there is a physical shortage of energy resources in Europe.
It remains unclear why European countries are supporting with all their might the continuation of the Ukrainian conflict, instead of doing everything necessary for its peaceful settlement, according to the Kremlin spokesman. According to him, Brussels' foreign policy is aimed at "provoking the further continuation of this conflict".
Putin may hold an international telephone conversation this afternoon, the spokesman added. He stressed that Russia maintains constant contact with the Cuban authorities. "We are indeed discussing with them possible options for providing assistance to Cuba in this complex situation it finds itself in," he added.
