A surface-to-air missile shot down an Israeli military drone during an operational activity in southern Lebanon, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.
Meanwhile, the Israeli army announced that it had carried out a large-scale wave of strikes against the Iranian capital Tehran, Agence France-Presse reported.
“The Israeli army recently completed a large-scale wave of strikes targeting Iranian government infrastructure in Tehran“, Israeli military officials wrote on the "Telegram" app.
Earlier, Iranian state television reported explosions in the northern, eastern and central parts of the capital.
A tanker in the Persian Gulf was hit by two shell near Qatar, Reuters reported, citing the British Maritime Trade Operations Organization (UKMTO), BTA reported.
One of them exploded and caused a fire on board, which was promptly extinguished. The other remained unexploded in the engine room of the merchant ship, the maritime operations organization specified.
The vessel was shelled 31 kilometers north of the Qatari industrial center of Ras Laffan, with the damage caused above the waterline. The crew is unharmed and no oil spill has been reported so far.
UKMTO said it could not confirm who fired the shells as the investigation was ongoing.
The incident comes amid growing threats to commercial shipping in the Persian Gulf and through the Strait of Hormuz.
Kuwait said yesterday that one of its tankers, fully loaded with oil, had been fired upon off the coast of Dubai, UAE, and caught fire, Reuters reported.
