The Pentagon announced the resignation of the Chief of Staff of the US Army General Randy George.

As reported by the Deputy Secretary of Defense for Public Affairs Sean Parnell in X, “George is stepping down as the 41st Chief of Staff of the US Army“. Parnell specified that this decision “is effective immediately“. He also noted that the general is resigning.

CBS reported earlier that US Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth has asked George “to resign from his post immediately“. According to sources on the channel, Hegseth “wants someone in this position who will implement the vision for the development of the army“ proposed by US President Donald Trump and the Pentagon chief.

As specified in the publication, one of the candidates for the post of chief of staff of the US Army is most likely General Christopher Lanive. He was George's deputy and was also a former aide to Hegseth.

Since taking office in January 2025, Hegseth has ordered the dismissal of several generals, including former chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff Charles Brown. In April 2025, former Pentagon press secretary John Elliott, in an article published in Politico, claimed that the department was in “complete chaos“, caused in part by the dismissals.
