Pope calls US-Iran truce a 'sign of profound hope' - 1

Pope Leo XIV has called the US-Iran truce a 'sign of profound hope', Aleteia.org reported.

The agreement reached late on April 7 between Iran, the United States and Israel establishes a two-week pause in hostilities after weeks of escalating violence.

Pope Leo XIV stressed that a truce alone cannot ensure peace. "Only by returning to the negotiating table can we put an end to the war," he said, urging all parties to move quickly from temporary restraint to sustainable dialogue.

Against this uncertain horizon, the pope called on Catholics around the world to spiritually support diplomatic efforts, indicating that openness to dialogue can extend beyond this single conflict and shape responses to crises elsewhere.
