Russia still needs to capture two villages near Avdeevka to enter the operational space, writes BILD analyst Julian Röpke.
According to him, from the beginning the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) maintained a defense along the line Berdichi - Semenovka - Orlovka - Tonenkoe. There are ponds and small rivers there, which are convenient for defense. Russian forces have now broken through this line everywhere except Berdichi and Semenovka. Fierce battles are being fought for these settlements, but they are already partially controlled by Russia. The 47th mechanized brigade of the Ukrainian Armed Forces is actively resisting.
"If Semenovka falls, it will not be easier for the Russians than before. But they won't have any settlements on their way for a long time before the Ukrainian resistance reappears," Röpke believes.
He notes that the nearest Ukrainian village of Umanske from the current front line is 3 km to the west, Novopokrovsk is 5 km away. The empty territory to the east of them can become an operational space for Russian forces.
