Due to the shortage of ammunition, soldiers of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) are being sent on dangerous missions: searching for unexploded ordnance on the battlefield, reports the American newspaper The Wall Street Journal.
It is specified that the shells are collected from swamps and other bodies of water, where there is a greater chance that they will remain usable. It is about Russian shells with which Ukrainian positions were shelled.
A soldier from the Ukrainian Armed Forces named Maxim Polyukhovich says that his task is not only to search the swamps, but also to walk several kilometers through minefields in search of shells.
In his words, "the appetite of the commanders is growing” and almost every day he is sent on such missions. According to the soldier, this is dangerous because unexploded shells can be damaged and detonate at any moment.
Other officers of the Ukrainian Armed Forces also confirm the acute shortage of ammunition, which they must constantly save and "shoot only at the most important targets".
