Russia to build small nuclear power plant (NPP) in Uzbekistan. This was announced today by the head of state of the Central Asian country, Shavkat Mirziyoyev, during a meeting in Tashkent with Russian President Vladimir Putin, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
The two leaders did not give details about the project. Mirziyoev's comment that it is about a "small" The NPP, however, suggests that it will not reach the power of the nuclear plant that the two sides agreed on in 2017. This project was never completed, according to Reuters.
Uzbekistan's president described Putin's visit as "historic" and announced that his country is interested in buying more natural gas and oil from Russia.
For his part, Putin called the former Soviet republic a "strategic partner of Moscow and a reliable ally".
During the Russian president's visit to Uzbekistan, Moscow and Tashkent signed agreements on new projects worth more than $20 billion, TASS notes.
