According to British intelligence, the total number of Russian casualties killed and wounded since the start of the war in Ukraine is likely to reach 500,000. This is stated in a report of the British Ministry of Defense, published on the social network H.
The report states that Russian losses remain high in 2024, in May the average loss of Russian personnel was over 1,200 per day, the highest since the beginning of the war.
"The increased number of casualties is most likely a reflection of Russia's exhausting offensive, which it continues to lead on a wide front. It is very likely that most Russian troops receive only limited training and are not capable of conducting complex offensive operations," the British Ministry of Defense said. As a result, Russia is using small-scale but expensive attacks in an attempt to weaken Ukrainian defenses.

"Russia continues to raise additional forces in support of the war. But the need to constantly replenish front-line personnel will almost certainly continue to limit Russia's ability to form units with a higher level of combat capability.
