Kharkiv mayor: Strikes on Russian territory helped us - 1

Ukraine's army has hit missile launch positions in Russia, which has helped reduce the number of attacks against the heavily shelled city of Kharkiv in Ukraine, the mayor of the city Igor Terekhov announced today, quoted by Reuters, BTA reported.

The agency noted that his words came after US President Joe Biden late last week approved the use of US weapons to strike targets on Russian territory that were used in attacks on Kharkiv, the second-largest largest city in Ukraine.

While missile strikes and drone strikes against Kharkiv continue, the mayor said the change has helped bring relative calm to Ukraine's second-largest city.

"It helped," Terekhov said in Berlin, responding to a question about whether the possibility of striking Russian territory had eased the situation after weeks of heavy bombing.

"That's why maybe Kharkiv has ... this period of ... calm in the last few weeks ... because there were no big strikes like in May, for example,'' he said through a translator. Terekhov participated in the conference on the reconstruction of Ukraine, which aims to promote European support and investment in the country.
