Russian Prosecutor's Office sent the case of the detained American journalist Evan Gershkovich in court, after it came to the conclusion that he was collecting information for the US Central Intelligence Agency in connection with a Russian tank factory, Reuters reported, quoted by BTA.
Russia's Prosecutor General's Office said Gershkovich's case will be heard by a court in the city of Yekaterinburg, where the journalist was arrested in March 2023 on suspicion of espionage.
It is not announced when the case will begin to be considered.
Gerskovich and his employer - the American newspaper "Wall Street Journal" reject the accusation of espionage as false, and the administration of US President Joe Biden is demanding that Moscow release him.
"The investigation has established and confirmed with documentary evidence that Gershkovich, an American journalist from the "Wall Street Journal" collected classified information on the instructions of the CIA in the Sverdlovsk region in March 2023 about the activities of the defense plant "Uralvagonzavod" JSC for the production and repair of military equipment", says the statement of the prosecutor's office.
"Gerskovich committed the illegal acts by using elaborate conspiratorial methods," the statement said.
