British Prime Minister Keir Starmer told the ministers during the first meeting of the new cabinet, held at Downing Street 10, that they had a "huge amount of work" ahead of them, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
Starmer told his team it was an “honour and a privilege” to be invited by the king to form a government after scoring a historic election victory earlier this week.
„We are now holding our first cabinet meeting. So I welcome you. We have a huge amount of work to do, so now we get on with our work,” he said.
He was greeted with thunderous applause by the cabinet ministers he appointed yesterday and largely coincide with his “shadow government” before the election while Labor was in opposition.
DPA says Starmer will make his international debut as British prime minister next week when he attends the NATO summit in Washington.
