Chinese President Xi Jinping said that Beijing's attention is currently focused on calming the situation in Ukraine and creating conditions and support from the international community to resume direct dialogue between Moscow and Kiev, reported Xinhua and Reuters.
Xi made this statement during a meeting in Beijing with Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, reports Chinese television.
"The international community must create the conditions and provide assistance to both sides to resume direct dialogue and negotiations. Only when all major countries show positive energy instead of negative energy, a ceasefire will be able to take place in this conflict as quickly as possible," said the Chinese leader, quoted by TASS.
A quick ceasefire and a political solution are in the interests of all countries, the Chinese leader added. According to him, in order to calm the situation, the three principles must be observed - not to expand the front line, not to escalate the fighting and not to light the fire from any side.
