Germany will impose temporary border control on its border with France on the occasion of the upcoming Olympic Games in Paris, announced the Minister of the Interior of Germany Nancy Feser, DPA reported, quoted by BTA.
The move is being made in cooperation with the French authorities in order to provide greater security for the Olympic Games, which conclude on August 11. The European Commission will be notified as soon as possible.
Border checks with Denmark, the Netherlands, Belgium and Luxembourg, introduced because of the European football championship, will be lifted on Friday. Border controls with Austria, Switzerland, the Czech Republic and Poland to stop illegal immigration remain in place.
Germany and all its neighbors are members of the Schengen area, which guarantees free movement across most borders within the European Union.
