Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi welcomed the agreement concluded today by 14 Palestinian factions, which provides for the creation of a "temporary government of national reconciliation" in the Gaza Strip after the war, reported Agence France-Presse, quoted by BTA.
"The agreement to form an Interim Government of National Reconciliation for the post-war administration of Gaza is a landmark event, Wang Yi said, after the various Palestinian factions signed a joint declaration in Beijing.
Fourteen Palestinian factions, including "Hamas" and Fatah met this week in the Chinese capital in a new attempt at reconciliation.
"Reconciliation is an internal matter for the Palestinian factions, but at the same time it cannot be achieved without the support of the international community,” said the head of Chinese diplomacy. "China wants to play a constructive role in maintaining peace and stability in the Middle East," he added.
The Fatah party, founded by the historic Palestinian leader Yasser Arafat, and its rival, the Hamas movement, which is at war with Israel in Gaza, have failed to reconcile since June 2007. ; overthrew and expelled the Palestinian Authority from Gaza after more than a year of political crisis and violence following the parliamentary elections.

Chinese diplomacy described the talks as encouraging and expressed hope that they would succeed in giving impetus to "intra-Palestinian reconciliation".
In recent years, Beijing has strengthened its trade and diplomatic relations with the Middle East, a large part of which has traditionally been under American influence, AFP recalls.
