Czech court sentenced ex-soldier Filip Siman to seven years in prison for robberies during the military operations in Ukraine, Ukrinform reported, referring to radio "Prague International", BTA reported.

The court found the Czech citizen Siman guilty of looting in the war zones. Prosecutor Martin Billie said the indictment in the case against Seaman was the first charge of such a crime in the war in Ukraine. The verdict is not final.

Twenty-seven-year-old Siman said in his defense that he went to help Ukraine because his ancestors came from that country, and said he took items from Ukrainian homes on the orders of his superiors. The Czech prosecutor's office initially requested a 10-year sentence under strict regime.

Before going to Ukraine, Siman served two years in the Czech army. He joined as a volunteer the Ukrainian battalion "Carpathian Sich“ at the end of March 2022 without having received permission from the Czech President.
