German customs officers found 250 kilograms of spoiled cheese and smuggled cigarettes in Bulgarian buses

The seizures are part of three-day inspections that revealed a number of violations of import rules

German customs officers found about 250 kg of spoiled cheese in a Bulgarian bus during a border check on the highway between the Czech capital Prague and the German city Dresden through last week, the local customs reported today, quoted by DPA.

Employees also found about 120 kilograms of copper from Turkey, Turkish production, reports the main customs office in Dresden.

In another bus from Bulgaria, the customs officials seized 40 packs of cigarettes, hidden in bags behind the last seat.

The seizures are part of three days of highway checks which uncovered a number of violations of import rules. In total, officers checked 250 vehicles and over 450 people. The customs service described the operation as “very successful” and reported that nine criminal proceedings had been initiated and another 12 cases had been referred to the relevant authorities.

Two motorcycles were detained in the cargo space of a Romanian minibus, and in the trailer – car with British registration.

In addition, they seized €20,000 in cash of unknown origin from a man's car, as well as a gas pistol that was placed next to the driver's seat in the cabin of a 35-year-old man traveling with a customer.

Law enforcement stopped a luxury car registered in Armenia for tax reasons. However, the driver registered it again the next day.
