Milan head coach Paulo Fonseca called for a more solid defensive performance from his players, who lost 1-2 to newcomers Parma in a match from the second round of Serie A yesterday.
Parma shocked Milan with a goal from Denis Mann after just 83 seconds, before Christian Pulisic equalized in the 66th minute. Substitute Matteo Cancellieri gave Parma the breakthrough ten minutes later.
"I'm disappointed. It is difficult to explain our defensive behavior. It's clear we have a problem in defense," Fonseca said at a press conference.
"It was too easy for Parma when they attacked. I'm not just talking about the defenders, I'm talking about the whole team, how we defend collectively and individually. "I take responsibility for what the team is doing, but we have to admit that we have problems in defense," he added.
Parma, who drew 1-1 at Fiorentina last week, had the same number of shots on goal as Milan - five.
"The team worked well during the week, I think I can see an improvement. But then we arrive here and in the first situation we concede a goal", added Fonseca.
"We behaved badly in defense in all moments of the match. We have an attitude problem to solve. We have to work as a team. We lose the ball too easily. This allows an opponent who defends deep to create chances", the coach also commented.
In the next round, Milan will visit Lazio on August 31.
