Ukraine started the cross-border military operation in the Kursk region because it is the weakest point of the Russian defense . This was stated by the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine (AFU) Oleksandr Sirsky in an interview with CNN.
According to the general, the Russian invaders planned to use this territory as a springboard for further actions, in particular for an attack on the Sumy region.
„For us, this direction has always been a threat, therefore, assessing our options, we chose the weakest point in the opponent's defense, in his structure”, Sirski pointed out.
The Kursk operation helped protect Pokrovsk, Sirsky also said, referring to fierce, non-stop fighting in the eastern part of Ukraine.
„Of course, the enemy concentrated their most trained units in the Pokrovsky direction, but we deprived them of the opportunity to maneuver their units and transfer their reinforcements from other directions,” Sirsky explained.
„The Pokrov direction actually remains the most problematic for us, in other directions the situation is stabilizing, therefore I think that this strategy was chosen correctly and will bring us the desired result,” said the Commander-in-Chief of the Armed Forces of Ukraine.
Syrsky also commented on the crash of an F-16 fighter jet in Ukraine in August. He indicated that Kiev will soon announce the results of the investigation into the causes of the incident and will not hide what happened. According to him, a commission of the Ministry of Defense is conducting an investigation to establish all the facts surrounding the plane crash.
