European Commissioner for the Internal Market Thierry Breton has announced that he is resigning from the European commission. In a letter published on the social network "X", he specifies that his decision takes effect immediately, quoted by BTA.
Breton was expected to continue his work at the EC for another term. In his letter to the EC president, Ursula von der Leyen, he notes that days ago she asked Paris to change the name of the commissioner nominated for a new term "for personal reasons" that were not discussed with Breton. According to him, France is expected to propose a new candidate soon, and he himself does not see an opportunity to continue his work in the Commission.
This week, von der Leyen was expected to present the composition and structure of the new European Commission to the leadership of the European Parliament.
